Custom mask from png:

Hi All,

Anyone know how to create a custom mask from a png rather than using the default circle or square mask?

Thanks
Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

The masks are actually 3D models. You would need to take your PNG and create a mesh from it in a 3D software package, export it as an FBX or POD and then import it into Studio.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
Can you explain more on how to make your own mask?
I’m looking to make a book with a window (open mask part) to show whats under it.

I have a 3d fbx file but it doesn’t work like a mask. If I make it clear i can see thru to my Target image past the things in front of it. Unlike the normal mask.

Hey Steve,

Can I just confirm you’re following these steps in Studio:

  1. make sure the fbx is set to ‘full 3d’
  2. make sure the mask is physically positioned in front of the things to mask (e.g. hidden objects are at position 0,0,-1, then the mask is at 0,0,0 etc)
  3. make sure the mask is above the masked objects in the heirachy
  4. make sure the masked objects are either ‘full-3d’ or ‘test 3d’ , and not overlay

Thanks,
Mark

I have checked and everything looks good.
here is a screenshot I have 2 books one with the color set 0 the other to 1.

Hi Steve,

Mark’s currently away, but I can help you out.

Just as with your other project, could you send through these files to support@zappar.com too please?

I’ll have a look through them for you.

Thanks,
Seb
