Analytics - Countries

Good Morning!
Question about the analytics, in particular the countries section. How does zapworks collect that data, is it just using the IP the user is currently on and where that is based? We’ve had a few random countries pop up on analytics, that could be the user on a VPN i guess, but wanted to check if Zapworks uses anything else to log it?

Many thanks!

I’ve gotten the same thing. I was told it most likely VPNs.
Even with analytics from Unity I get it.

Hey @SirTwixtor. We use the IP address to geo-locate the user and then delete the IP address. Unfortunately, that’s quite a coarse way of doing it these days - especially with browsers like Brave or VPNs (as you mentioned) so it’s not foolproof. Generally it’s effective, though.

If you’re after more in-depth analytics I would recommend implementing Google Analytics or a similar too into the webAR experiences – it has a host of other benefits like retargeting too.

Happy to discuss further if you have questions - just drop me a note on tom.defraine@zappar.com
