360º Object photography

As a complete newcomer and being totally smitten with Zapworks I am keen to find out if it is possible to utilise my 360º object photography to import an object to animate in Zapworks Studio. Maybe wrap a mesh around it in some way?

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Do you have an example of your photography somewhere that we can take a look at?

We’ll be able to suggest more from there

Hi Mark,

Thanks for replying so quickly. I have only started to think along these lines since last weekend so very rough and ready example. I knocked up a cardboard turntable and produced my first 360º object image which I have placed on my website but as I understand that links aren’t allowed in the forum may I direct you to entiredesign dot biz forward slash panda

My theory is that I might be able to apply a mesh or something like topology over the image in various views then combine them.

That’s interesting, it might be because you’re a new user that it wouldn’t let you post a link (we’re still getting used to the forum setup). For future reference the link is - http://entiredesign.biz/panda/.

It sounds like 123D Catch might be the tool for you, it uses pictures taken around an object to turn them into a 3D model.

You could then import the model into ZapWorks Studio and show it off that way.

So it turns out that AutoDesk discontinued 123D Catch, apologies for that link.

These options sound a little more promising - http://3dscanexpert.com/3-free-3d-scanning-apps/

The other option is to buy an Occipital Structure Sensor. Use the Itseez3D app to then scan and you’ll get a very good quality model. You might need to down-sample the polygons though - depending on the detail.
